16th TT Chess Composition Microweb C 31.1.2005
Expectations about the number of entries in
15th TT Chess Composition Microweb, that was dedicated to
helpmates with exactly 5 phases, were not high, that is why I was quite nicely surprised.
It seems that Chess Composition Microweb has gained some popularity not only among readers,
but also its theme tourneys can attract new and new authors, while the old ones return
again and again. We will see whether the new tourney dedicated to less known and
relatively new fairy condition might yield good result.
I'm writing about SAT, invented in 1997 and since then popularized by its inventor,
Ladislav Salai sr. While it took some time to clarify the definition, it took even me
some time to recognize the potential of the condition, despite my own small
popularization step, publication of SAT page, It now introduces
the latest version of SAT definition , already stable and, what is more important too,
programmable in fairy solving programs. There is somewhere around unofficial version of Popeye
recognizing SAT (in basic form) and, of course, Christian Poisson's excellent WinChloe
copes with it very well too. WinChloe helped me a lot in the preparation of my entries for
the 1st section of Klub Pongracz 10 JT C 13.8.2002, that
was dedicated to any problems with SAT. Also one section of the match with Czech
problemists was dedicated to longer selfmates in SAT. The fairy condition is
already well tested and it was found capable of very strange effects. It gains more and
more attention abroad, not only in Slovakia.
Ladislav Salai sr. has recently published a book about SAT and it seems to be very suitable
ocassion for a new theme tourney, dedicated to a genre less frequent, perhaps due to
economy reasons... helpmates in SAT.
Announcement
Chess Composition Microweb announces formal thematical tourney for helpmates
using fairy condition SAT. Any other fairy elements (pieces, conditions) are
allowed, the competition might be divided into mre sections by judge if there is
big number of entries.
Judge: Ladislav Salai sr. (Slovakia)
Prizes: books "SAT".
Definition of SAT: a side is checked if its king can move according to other
(orthodox or other given fairy) rules. (Logically, a side to move is checkmated
if it is checked and it cannot parry the check by own move.)
Entries should be sent by email to juraj.lorinc@bigfoot.com
before January 31st 2005. The award will be published at Chess Composition Microweb.
Please, let know your friends about our competition!
Slovensky preklad temy: turnaj je vypisany pre pomocne maty s exopodmienkou SAT.
Su dovolene i lubovolne exoprvky.
Examples
Helpmates in SAT are still scarce, you can find a couple among awarded problems in
both the 1st section of Klub Pongracz 10 JT C 13.8.2002
as well as in
the 2nd section of Klub Pongracz 10 JT C 13.8.2002.
That's why out judge offered 3 of his originals as examples for the tourney, and
I have attached one older Vlacu Crisan's problem and one mine - look at
the official examples here.
If you would like to get into touch with the condition, look at some SAT
problems with other stipulation in index of fairy elements.
Results
Many thanks to mr. Ladislav Salai for preparing his award very quickly.
We had 8 SAT helpmates competing, one of them cooked. Despite some doubts about outcome, the result is
no bad and I am happy I have dared to organize theme tourney with not very attractive theme.
The tourney was successful thanks to the following authors that submitted their compositions:
- Cosme Brull Mayol (Spain)
- Michel Caillaud (France)
- Vlaicu Crisan (Romania)
- Juraj Lörinc (Slovakia)
- Manfred Rittirsch (Germany)
And here are the winners: award by Ladislav Salai sr.
Send any claims against this award to Juraj Lörinc before May 31st 2005, please.
As no claims were received, the award becomes final.
Again many thanks to everyone who helped tourney success in whichever way.
