Award of 17th TT Spisska Borovicka C 9.9.2005

This is the award by Peter Gvozdják of TT that was announced on CCM too.

The 17th year brought exactly 17 problems, the largest number ever.
Once again, the quality was very high.
Two problems were unthematic.
Here´s my award.

Honourable Mentions ex aequo:

(01) (Slesarenko)
Orthodox twomover showing the Kiss cycle. Not completely new, but I like the two white diagonals focused to black King.

(02) (Barth)
The Ukraininan cycle with very clear construction.

(03) (Barth)
The Djurašević cycle, where all white moves and also black defence are played on the only square (!).

(04) (Quah)
Very interested and complicated castling concept, however, less thematic for the tourney.

(11) (Salai jr, Klemanič)
Combination of Fleck and Lačný, all white and all black moves on same squares. But rought flights taking keys.

(12) (Sovík)
Beautiful fairy twomover with white moves on c4. Only the Grasshoppers made it possible.

(14) (D. Stojnić)
Very paradoxical idea: all thematic mates on square that black King just left. A pity that so symmetrical.

(17) (Loustau, Aschwanden)
Combination with the white correction makes a bit unballanced impression, but the cycle motivation is nice.

7th Prize: (10) (Aschwanden)
The Lačný cycle combined with Stocchi Block – should be pioneer example.

6th Prize: (16) (Klemanič, Salai jr)
The surprising Rice cycle with destroyed analogy of two white lines.

5th Prize: (09) (Aschwanden)
Surely very difficult 4-fold Kiss cycle with defences on the same square. Additionally, there is 3rd degree arrival correction in the solution.

4th Prize: (13B) (Sovík)
Beautiful orthodox reflexmate with three white moves on d5.

3rd Prize: (08) (Aschwanden, Loustau)
4-fold Shedey cycle, with all three defences on the same square. The motivation is perfect.

2nd Prize: (07) (Aschwanden, Loustau)
The Lačný cycle with three Lion defences on e3 and three Lion mates on h7. Moreover the threat again on e3, thus the „Umnov defences“. Flight giving key.

1st Prize: (05A) (Bulavka)
Complete 3x3 Lačný cycle with all defences on g5 and all mates on f3! A quite simple constructional trick made it possible: the three lines from g5 (to b5, d2, g1) need to have two, one and no hurdle – and this is changed between phases. Maybe a bit less artistic, but a great thematic achievement.
