There was missing one unit at diagram. White pg3 should be added (diagram on left is OK now).

Try 1.Vh2? t. Kb6 2.Va2!, 1...Kd6!
brings after comparison with solution
1.g4! t., 1...Kb6, Kd6 2.Va3!, Ve3! etc.
