Selection from award of Suomen Tehtäväniekat 1997 - h#n

Judged by Christer Jonsson. 3 Prizes, 3 HMs, 6 Comms. It was the huge tourney as it included 182 (!!!) five-men helpmates.
Henry Tanner
1st Prize Suomen Tehtäväniekat 1997
after Hans Vetter

1...Bf3 2.Kc3 Bxe2 3.Kd2 Bf1 4.Ke1 Kc2 5.Sh3 Kd3 6.Kf2 Ke4 7.Kg1 Kf3 8.Kh1 Kg3 9.Sg1 Bg2#

Although it is unbelievable, there is only one way to mate.

Original wrong remark "dedicated to" was corrected to "after" after e-mail from Henry Tanner.

Henry also expressed his slight disappointment: "Normally, when a composer wins a composing tourney, he should be happy (and often is). This time I had mixed feelings. Two of the three prizes were given to problems in which my own contribution was not very big, as you can see if you compare the problems. In our 5-man-h# project there were many problems by myself that I liked much more (because I had made the mental effort to create them from the beginning), whereas here most of the praise goes to Vetter & Keinz."

Well, readers can judge themselves as two mentioned problems are given below.

One move longer, but here is quickly seen that queen is simply too strong to help white mate and that's why she must go out.

Original wrong remark "dedicated to" was corrected to "after" after e-mail from Henry Tanner.
